About Bebras
What is Bebras?
Bebras is an annual computer science competition for 6 - 18 year olds. It takes place in 54 countries and is a great way to get kids started in this subject.
How do I participate?
In the United Kingdom, participation is through the schools. Talk to your Head of Information Technology at your school, and ask for the school to enroll in Bebras.
When does it take place?
The Bebras Challenge takes place between 6 and 17 of November 2023. The exact date is arranged within each school.
How do I prepare for Bebras?
We recommend 3 sources for preparing for the competition:
- the official practice questions
- the Boris Ninja YouTube channel
- the Ninja Code Quest book (available on Amazon)
What do I learn from Bebras?
Bebras is an easy introduction to Computer Science for young kids. They will learn basics of algorithms, patterns, logic and abstraction. These put the foundation for participating in further competitions like the BIO (British Informatics Olympiad). More importantly, it stirs up interest from a young age.
Should my kid participate?
Absolute, resounding YES. There is nothing to lose. Participation is free and the preparation can be as light as you want it to be. At the end of the competition, your child will a score to beat next year and an experience that can change their trajectory.
